BioControl Technology Group Leader.
This position will lead our Technology efforts as we execute against Health & Protection's BioProtection strategies. A thorough understanding of the role of food microbiology and antimicrobial strategies, research and development is essential. This person would be expected to be a strategic thinker and possess the experience and ability to lead, manage, recruit and engage a team of strong scientists in our quest for the identification, research and development of novel food protection strategies to enhance food safety, food preservation and sustainability.
This position involves leading an organization of more than 40 individuals, distributed between two sites:
This position operates in an office/laboratory environment and reports to the Technology Leader in the Health and Protection Division.
The leader of this team is responsible for three key areas of our BioProtection Technology:
1) Discovery and research of H&P's protective solutions around antimicrobials and antioxidants for food.
2) Development and application efforts on food protection solutions to enhance food safety, food preservation and sustainability.
3) Support ongoing R&D efforts on Animal Applications for Direct-fed Microbials

Responsibilities of this Scientist position include:
Lead a team of scientists in the discovery, research and development of antimicrobials, antioxidants and bioprotection solutions in support of the Health & Protection Division
Partner closely with business in the direction of projects in the research and development of discovery of probiotic assets and applications.
Leverage internal and external relationships in the understanding, discovery, research and development of novel food protection solutions.
Direct efforts in the implementation of novel and inventive application-based (matrix-dependent detection, discrimination, enumeration) approaches for the discovery, research and development of food protection (antimicrobial and antioxidant) solutions.
Provide strategic direction in support of invention disclosures as appropriate to protect innovative processes and solutions and applications
Use internal/external scientific literature, collaborations, and emerging industry trends for new product/process development and to identify potential breakthrough technology and perform research as needed to support product development and breakthrough feasibility studies
Identify, develop and manage external collaborations in support of development and breakthrough efforts
Communicate results to Manager and project/program stakeholders on a regular basis



Qualifications
Requirements:

A Ph.D. is required with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
Trained in Microbiology, Food Science, or related field
Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, recruit and engage a team of strong scientists
Extensive experience in the research and development of food protection solutions, including exploration and development of novel food protection solutions to enhance food safety, food preservation and sustainability.
Experience in project management; planning, tracking and reporting
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills for presentation of scientific concepts and results to internal and external customers and stakeholders
