Vintage Gariepy Banjo Rim/Pot w/ All Hardware and Custom for sale in Thousand Oaks, CA
Fantastic and rare 60's vintage Gariepy aluminum archtop banjo rim/pot, fitted with a skin head and a custom three ply maple rim fitted by renowned luthier Roger Siminoff inside the pot. Three ply rim is completely removable if you want just the cast aluminum Gariepy pot, but the wood really tames the sound of this rim if you want to use it as an open back, old time banjo. It will have that great Okie Adams sound that Doc Watson used to get. This rim is heavy with the three ply rim, and that will translate into a really great, warm sound. I really hate to let this one go, but just have too many projects and not enough time. These rims are getting really hard to find, but they have killer tone, especially with the wooden rim fitted inside the aluminum pot. All you have to do is drill the holes for the coordinator rods, finish the maple rim, install a neck, tuners and strings. Purchased from Roger about 15 years ago. Gariepy banjos and rims were based on a Fred Van Eps design, you could also remove the maple rim and install a tenor or plectrum neck if so desired. A great build project for a really unique banjo!
